中国著名艺术评论家陈开平评画家汤德新：

对线条的勾勒和线条的照影及照影下的艺术效应充分体现了汤氏美术素描上的功力，是格式化培养出的艺术“匠人”无法达到的，灵透、虚实的结合反映其内心深处的灵感和创造力，把自然与人的物体效应加以艺术上的揣摩和滚打——高于了“生活”。毋容置疑笔墨随心生、中西合璧之丹青情怀、横溢思绪、大泻倾潭、灵气贯通、静动萧慕而时有变化。花、鸟、石、人、物浑厚却不入俗态、笔墨遒劲连绵、更深而幽邃，这也许是汤德新的整体韵味吧。
