World’s Longest Bridge丨Breakthrough Progress Achieved in the
On July 1st, the Tongtaiyang Super Bridge, part of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway, successfully completed the closure of the Cross-Yangtze River Cable-Stayed Bridge, which is being constructed by China Railway Construction Corporation Bridge Bureau.
The Tongtaiyang Super Bridge on the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway is currently the longest high-speed railway bridge under construction in the world. The bridge spans a total length of 172.9 kilometers, crossing the cities of Nantong, Taizhou, and Yangzhou. The Cross-Yangtze River Cable-Stayed Bridge, which has a total length of 522.3 meters and a main span of 220 meters, is the first cable-stayed bridge on the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway to achieve bridge closure. As a key control node for the entire line, the bridge features an innovative design that enables the railway to cross both the Yangtze River Avenue and the Yangtze River Diversion Canal. The successful closure of the bridge creates favorable conditions for the subsequent track-laying and full-line completion of the high-speed railway.
Simultaneous Tower and Beam Construction, Improving Quality and Efficiency. The Cross-Yangtze River Cable-Stayed Bridge is located in the Yangtze River water system area, where unfavorable geological conditions such as ground subsidence and earthquake-induced liquefaction exist, and it also crosses a navigation channel. The project faced significant challenges, including high construction difficulty, safety and quality control risks, and tight deadlines. Before the construction of the bridge's substructure, the project’s technical team invited geological experts for on-site exploration and scientifically optimized the pile foundation construction plan based on the actual geological conditions, ensuring the smooth progress of the pile foundation work and laying a solid foundation for the bridge's closure. Additionally, the project team innovated construction processes and equipment, adjusting the tower and beam simultaneous construction scheme for some sections. By adopting the moving formwork and cantilever casting process, the efficiency was improved by approximately 15% compared to traditional methods. The project also monitored and provided early warning for critical parts of the formwork, ensuring construction safety, reducing human-controlled errors, and ensuring the safe and successful bridge closure.
Smart Technology Empowerment, Precise Safeguarding. To ensure the safe, high-quality, and efficient construction of the bridge, the project strictly adhered to high-risk procedure acceptance and daily pre-shift safety education. AI video surveillance systems were implemented to provide 100% coverage and round-the-clock intelligent identification and early warning at key construction points. Safety grid management was implemented, assigning responsibility to inpiduals, effectively controlling major risk sources. The project also integrated the "Safety Assurance" and "On-duty Supervision" systems for full-process management, covering raw material entry, construction organization, process control, and later maintenance. The project reinforced comprehensive and detailed management of safety, quality, schedule, and environmental protection, optimizing resource allocation to ensure the successful closure of the bridge.

The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway is one of the key "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway corridors in China, complementing the advantages of the Yangtze River Golden Waterway. The railway passes through six provinces and municipalities: Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing, and Sichuan, with a total length of approximately 2,100 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Upon completion, this project will be of great significance for the development of the "Yangtze River Delta on Rail," optimizing the railway network layout along the Yangtze River, serving the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and promoting the integrated high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta.
